Fall Migration Coffee is grown by coffee visionary, Byron Corrales, a farmer and a friend to the folks at Rise Up Coffee Roasters in Easton, Maryland. His farm, Finca Los Pinos, is an organic coffee farm located in the beautiful Arenal Nature Reserve in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. Sustainable farming practices have been part of the Corrales’ legacy for many generations. In their own words:
“Behind every cup, there is a forest, a river to protect, a climate to preserve, many hardworking hands, and a planet to care for.”
Byron is a shining example of a farmer doing everything right. His cultivation techniques make him a pioneer in his industry, and his coffee one of the most beloved. The roasters of Rise Up are proud to call him a friend, and feel lucky to roast his coffee, which is categorized with a Light + roasting level, and has notes that are Juicy, Magical, Sweet.
From Maryland to Matagalpa
Coffee is all about relationships. The friendship between Rise Up and the visionary coffee farmer Byron Corrales brings this unique combination of two heirloom varietals. Grown on the mountains of Matagalpa, Nicaragua, this coffee brings a sweet herbal taste as magical as the migration of the Baltimore Oriole. Turns out, when our orioles fly south for the winter, they travel to the same mountains that grow this amazing coffee. Turns out we share the same iconic bird!
Chesapeake Bay Foundation Partnership
A successful ‘migration’ starts with a healthy home. Rise Up Coffee proudly helps protect and restore our Bay by supporting the work of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, whose mission is to serve as a watchdog, fighting for effective, science-based solutions to the pollution degrading the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams.
Grown by Friends, Enjoyed by Friends
Rise Up Coffee has been an independent small-batch coffee roaster and retailer since March 2005. Rise Up is proud to serve only organic coffees, as coffee is the third most pesticide-doused crop in the world. Their coffees come from the finest growing regions of the world. These coffees are grown on farms only using traditional cultivating techniques without the use of pesticides. Furthermore, all of Rise Up’s coffees are 100% certified Fair Trade, which means that the farmers receive a premium wage for their work, in addition to having access to many health, education, environmental community initiatives.
Rise Up originated from an explosive combination of ambition and circumstance. Owner Tim Cureton had what would prove to be a life changing coffee experience while traveling home from the Peace Corps service. His love affair with great coffee had begun.
What started as a coffee trailer in a parking lot has evolved into three iconic locations, staffed by over thirty amazing people! Among them is Co-Owner and General Manager, Noah Kegley who joined the company in 2010. In 2012, with an intention to engage and captivate, Rise Up opened a coffee roastery in Easton, MD. In a former gas station built in the 1920’s, the artfully renovated space was designed to show off the world of coffee, from crop to cup. The diversity of coffee cultures and complexity of taste are on display daily.
From the beauty of the farms at origin, to the satisfaction of a perfectly pulled espresso shot, coffee continues to inspire and fascinate. To learn more and plan your visit to Rise Up Coffee Roasters, check out their website.
