If you are a mushroom enthusiast, you probably share our excitement to have the opportunity to get yours hands on some these awesome mushrooms.

If you are unfamiliar and looking at this strange, hairy mushroom cautiously, rest assured you are not alone.

This week was the first time that many of us at Harvest Market have held, cooked with, or tasted these unique mushrooms. It has been quite fun sharing the experience of trying these mushrooms for the first time, and overall, the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive!

We hope you take the opportunity to try these delicious mushrooms as well and let us know what you think. We’ve included some recipes at the bottom of the post.

About Lion’s Mane

Lion’s Mane (Hericium Erinaceus) is a mushroom with a long history of medicinal and culinary use. Native to all three of the northern hemisphere’s temperate continents, it gets its common name from its resemblance to a shaggy, white lion’s mane.

Lion’s Mane excels as a culinary mushroom with a texture and flavor described as being similar to crab or lobster.

As a nutritional supplement Lion’s Mane has shown promise as a neuroprotector, anti-inflammatory and nervine. It may also inhibit the growth of of H. Pylori  bacteria in the stomach. This bacterial overgrowth is thought by some to be causal in the development of stomach ulcers.

In addition to now carrying the fresh Lion’s Mane in our produce case, Harvest Market also stocks the Host Defense brand of Lion’s Mane capsules and powder (store owner Bob is a big fan).

Two Lion’s Mane Supplements that we carry. Other varieties of mushroom supplements we carry include for other reishi,  turkey tail, and more.
