Feeding the Hungry in our Community

Last year, Harvest Market was pleased to donate 7,200 pounds of food to the Kennett Food Cupboard, a local and extremely worthy non-profit organization that serves Southern Chester County, Pennsylvania, through Kennett Area Community Services.

The Kennett Food Cupboard offers food to families on a monthly basis with special food projects at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and to low-income senior housing residents. The program provides about a three to four days worth of food to over 1,600 individuals each month.

Kennett Area Community Service (KACS) began in 1954 with a group of local families distributing Christmas Baskets of food to a few families in need in the area. The program grew over the years and today, they are a nonprofit organization operated by a team of dedicated unpaid volunteers and, along with distributing food, KACS assists local residents in need with emergency assistance in housing, utilities, medical, transportation and other needs.

Read about the 10 Things Food Banks Need But Won’t Ask For in a previous blog post, and please consider donating food or money to the Kennett Food Cupboard or your local food bank if you’re in a position to do so. Thank you for caring about your neighbors and those in need; together, we are feeding the hungry in our community.
